As Apple announced the termination of the iPod Classic in their latest Keynote, there are many mixed feelings over this. Yes, Apple may be moving up to bigger and better things with all of its iPhone/ iPod / Mac they’ve made over the past decade, but there are also many mixed feelings about this iconic gadget being removed from the shelves. Although all of that has happened, lets pay a small tribute to one of Apples biggest inventions.
In October 23, 2001, Apple released the first iPod Classic along with many skeptical reactions by buyers. Although this product was not a major hit its first release, later in 2002 Apple integrated a new line of iPod classics and also made iTunes compatible with Windows. The first iPod classic was (of course) cheaper compared to $399 to $299; Ironic enough Apple sold its twelve millionth iPod into nineteen months of sale.
Apple kept the momentum up by adding the iPod mini, iPod nano, and iPod shuffle; Bringing color screens, colorful cases, photos, videos, shoe sensors, and limited edition iPods to eager shoppers. There is no doubt the iPod had a huge impact in its own right, but it is clear that Apple was just preparing for bigger and brighter things. For instance, the first iPhone: the making of the iPhone first gen was a big leap forward, but thanks to the iPod, it felt like a natural next step. This gadget prepared the world for mobile revolution and every smartphone, table, and smart watch since owes its debt.
A few weeks ago the iPod classic was discontinued, but when we tell others younger than us about the technology of yesterday, this revolutionary product is bound to be featured prominently.
