The new Apple’s flagship mobile device, iPhone 8, is coming closer to its release. Because of this, the rumors about its features and improvements are flying around. One of the latest ones is related to the iPhone 8 wireless charging abilities, which is also supposed to be used for its connection to accessories from the augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) domains. All of these sound really exciting and interesting for iPhone users and for now, there appears to be a lot of credibility behind these claims.
The key element of this story is the new Smart Connector that is included into the iPhone8. The rumor itself originated at the Verifier, a tech blog that is based in Israel. The blog authors claim that rumors are unverified but still appear very credible. However, the thing that somewhat dampens the excitement is the fact that these rumors already circulated in 2016 when the iPhone launch took place. Then, an iPhone 7 Plus rumor appeared with a supposed version of this connector in it. Today, it is clear that the same model clearly did not happen and the device came only with a regular Lightning connector. But, on the other hand, it is apparent that Apple considered the idea of including this feature before iPhone 8, even though it is currently only an element in the iPad.
When it comes to the idea of iPhone 8 wireless charging, there are many rumors which have originated in the past few months that point to this option. In other words, the new iPhone will almost certainly have some kind of a wire-free charging option. But, while information about the Smart Connector was at its minimal amounts, it would allow for the wireless charging capacity. On the other hand, it remains a mystery how would the charging process looks like because the new iPhone comes with a larger battery and without any improvements, the charging could last up to 12 hours, which is something Apple clearly wants to avoid.
The Verifier blog also showcased that the Smart Connector addition to the new iPhone would be used for VR and AR accessories and processes. Similarly, AirPlay and Apple TV features would also be included in the same domain, most likely as a part of the wider Smart Connector setup. All of this points to the idea that Apple is definitely entering the AR and VR domain with their new iPhone, which should prove to be more than exciting for all the users of this device. iPhone 8 wireless charging will be included in this, but probably end up being just one of several big changes made on the device.
