Are you one of the many iOS users who feel the device has slowed way down after upgrading to iOS 8? Was iOS 7 much faster? If you answered yes to either or both of these questions we may be of help today. The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus aren’t experiencing these slows downs because they have the newest processors inside, the A8 along with more new items add well. Technically speaking the iOS 8 firmware was made primarily for newer devices. However, Apple still thought many of the older devices such as the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 was still able to perform with iOS 8. I don’t agree with this for several reasons but thats not why you are here. You want to know what you can do to improve the speed of your device. Just so we are all on the same page here, I am speaking directly about the iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPad 2, iPad 3, and iPodTouch 5th gen. Other devices which are newer should be fine and if you are experiencing lagging on newer devices such as iPhone 6, I would call Apple.
Simply Steps to Increase Performance on iOS 8
Turn Spotlight Search off
Turn Spotlight Search off – Settings->General->Spotlight Search This feature takes a lot of background work for the device to continually keep all the files on your device indexed. It’s always doing this in the background and especially when you add a new file of any kind. Not only does it index but iOS 8, uses data sources from online to get your results such as Wikipedia, News, and more. This can soak up some major performance and memory of an older device. If you must have this feature on, at least turn the items off you never use.
Turn off Background App Refresh
Turn off Background App Refresh Settings->General->Background App Refresh Users will not only see an improvement in performance when turning this off but battery life as well. This is one of the many things users can disable for improving battery life. You get two birds with one stone here.
Turn on Reduce Motion
Turn on Reduce Motion Settings->General->Accessibility->Reduce Motion The moving wallpaper and system wide animations are very pretty to look at but really take a lot of CPU and battery power.
Clear Storage Space
Clear Storage Space Settings->General->Usage->Storage->Manage Storage Many of you probably had to remove files before making the upgrade to iOS 8 and now your gonna have to remove more. Heres sorta a rule I try to go by when storing any kind of media whether it be music or anything. If my device is 16 GB I will keep 4-6 GB Free at all times. I have just found my device performs better all the way around when it has at least 4 GB Free. If I was using 32 GB device I keep at least 10 GB FREE. If you are running your device of any size close to being full, its going to always give you problems. Your apps will crash, games will freeze, takes it forever to power on/off. There’s just so much improvements when you keep it at least 30%-40% FREE. Try it and let me know the out come. I guarantee you will be thanking me. Please leave your testimonies in the comments so other users can see how much this really helps.
Please take a moment to share this with your friends. It may help them out and besides what better way to spam their social media. LOL
