In addition to the new iPhones, and Apple’s new payment system, Apple Pay, Tim Cook and Co. has finally announced a new product category. It’s not the iWatch, it’s the Apple Watch. It’s the first product category released under Apple’s CEO Tim Cook.
”Apple Watch is the most personal device we’ve ever created,” states Tim Cook.
With a square display the device sports circular user interface elements. It’s available in silver, gold, and white. It’s available with six different watch straps, including a soft, quilted leather loop, a supple leather strap with a clasp, a stainless steel strap and more.
In typical Apple fashion, the straps are removable with a click. It’s also comes in two different sizes, three finishes, and several different bands.
“What we didn’t do was take the iPhone and shrink the user interface and strap it on your wrist,” Cook explained. Featuring the crown which doubles as a dial, the “digital crown” acts as the home button for the Apple Watch.
It’s sapphire-strengthened screen is a multi-touch display that allows you to swipe through the home screens. It’s also a touch-sensitive screen so it can register a tap vs. a touch. Apple calls it the Taptic Engine.
Siri is also built into the Apple Watch. Allowing you to ask questions, dictate questions, and reply to messages.
The Apple Watch will start at $349 and will be available early 2015.
