A new photo from Apple’s new retail store in Omotesando, Japan shows a “green curtain” of vines on the wall of the store as a way to keep up with climate control.
The store hasn’t been opened yet and part of it is covered with large curtains. A large part of the side wall of the store is covered with plant life which is a way of insulating the store to save energy and it makes sense since the region gets hot and humid during the summer period.
The store’s walls also display a leafy pattern forming Apple’s logo hinting at what’s to come in the future. Apple is extremely well known for saving energy, powering its data centers and headquarters with 94% of renewable energy. In addition, the company has taken an initiative to reduce its carbon footage in the past years. As expected, the company was also chosen for “Green Energy Innovator” by Greenpeace earlier in April.
The stores design also appears to be first of its kind and the company might take on a similar move for its future stores. Apple is expected to open the doors of the store for the public in June so there’s not much left before we get to see what lays inside.
